Watts Connectedness Scale
Over the course of Dr Watts’s career as a psychedelic researcher she observed that one of the most consistently reported effects of psychedelic therapy was an increased feeling of connectedness.
Whilst interviewing the participants of the first psilocybin for depression study, Dr Watts recognised that an increased feeling of connection to the self, others and the natural world was an important aspect of psychedelic therapy. These findings directly led to the development of a psychometric tool for measuring connectedness - the Watts Connectedness Scale.
The Watts Connectedness Scale is a tool to help those who have undergone a psychedelic experience articulate and quantify feelings of connectedness post-experience. This measure has now been validated by the team at the Imperial College Centre for Psychedelic Research, and has been submitted for publication soon.
We hope that the Watts Connectedness Scale will be used far and wide, in psychedelic research as well as other interventions, and that using the scale will allow scientists and mental health professionals alike to measure crucial changes to participants' experience of both inner and outward connectedness, and to design further plans to help individuals nurture and maintain these feelings.
You can access the Watts Connectedness Scale here and the manual here.
The Watts Connectedness Scale was a key component when creating ACER Integration - the psychedelic integration community created by Dr Watts for deeper connection to self, others and the natural world. You can find out more about ACER Integration below.
